How do I care for my rug?
The simplest, time-tested method is straight from Morocco: hang your rug in the sun for a few hours, then shake it out well before bringing it back inside. This regular airing out is the best way to keep your rug fresh and dust-free. Beyond that, care depends on the rug’s material and construction. For instance cotton boucherouites are the easiest to clean - just throw them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and air dry. Longer pile rugs should be vacuumed with care. Be sure to turn off the rotating brush or switch to the “carpet” setting before vacuuming the top side. For more information click here.
How do I clean a rug after a spill or stain?
For stains or heavy dirt, we recommend professional cleaning, especially if the rug is wool or vintage. Most rug cleaning services charge around $5–6 per square foot.
Regular cleaning not only removes dust embedded in the fibers, but also helps extend the life of your rug. Think of it as a check-up– occasional care now can help preserve it for decades to come.
What else can I do to extend the life of my rug?
We recommend using a rug pad. It adds cushioning, prevents slipping, and reduces wear on both the rug and your floors. It's one of the simplest ways to protect your investment. For more about rug pads, see below.
