Overview:
This vintage Azilal rug is expressive and full of character! The base of the rug is made up of an organic honeycomb pattern that is tighter towards the bottom and becomes more diffuse closer to the top. The edges of the rug are made up of alternating blue and red lines that ebb and flow from the top to the bottom. This is an old vintage piece. While the rug was originally handknotted, in parts, the pile has worn down, giving the rug the look and feel of a flatweave kilim. This all just adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the rug. There is some color bleeding on one end, probably incurred during a wash many moons ago; this rug will not continue to bleed. She's a treasure and a one-of-a-kind find!

Moroccan rugs are heirloom pieces that age well and are embedded with the living histories of the weavers, the symbols of their tribal regions, and the markings of both traditional and modern rug designs. Each tribal region in Morocco boasts its own weaving style- from modern black and white Beni Ourain rugs in the north, to the colorful and abstract Azilal high pile rugs, to the low pile rugs of the southern Ait Ouaouzguite region. While the process of weaving is the same throughout Morocco, the colors, textures, and patterns vary greatly from one region to the next. The artisans we work with are skilled at creating hand-knotted, thicker pile rugs, as well as weaving geometric Moroccan kilims, boucherouite rag rugs, and double-sided handira wedding blankets. The results of this are colorful, eclectic, and bohemian rugs that are perfect for any home — from throw rugs to hallway runners to area living room rugs.
