Overview:
This style of Moroccan rug is always a timeless classic. It's a Beni Ourain rug with such a low pile that it almost looks like a flatweave rug. This design features the diamond lozenges running through the middle of the rug, with a framed border on either side. Some say the diamond represents an abstraction of the evil eye. It is thought that by incorporating the diamonds in the rug, the weavers create a protective talisman that can help ward off the evil eye.
While these vintage rugs are often made using undyed black and white sheep's wool, this particular rug adds a third color -- a faded mustard brown. The traditional design, unique color way, and vintage feel all make this rug stand out. Due to its age and weave style, there's not a lot of heft to this rug, so we would recommend getting a thicker rug pad for this piece. For more information about rug pads, click here.

Moroccan rugs are heirloom pieces that age well and are embedded with the living histories of the weavers, the symbols of their tribal regions, and the markings of both traditional and modern rug designs. Each tribal region in Morocco boasts its own weaving style- from modern black and white Beni Ourain rugs in the north, to the colorful and abstract Azilal high pile rugs, to the low pile rugs of the southern Ait Ouaouzguite region. While the process of weaving is the same throughout Morocco, the colors, textures, and patterns vary greatly from one region to the next. The artisans we work with are skilled at creating hand-knotted, thicker pile rugs, as well as weaving geometric Moroccan kilims, boucherouite rag rugs, and double-sided handira wedding blankets. The results of this are colorful, eclectic, and bohemian rugs that are perfect for any home — from throw rugs to hallway runners to area living room rugs.
