Traditional Glaoui rugs feature a mix of weaving styles, including hand-knotted sections, embroidered bands, and flatweave background. In addition to being used for home decor, these rugs often doubled as a way to transport personal belongings for the nomadic Glaoui tribes. That being said, this vintage Glaoui rug is quite small. Its purpose is better served as a bedside rug, in a kitchen, or in a bathroom space. This rug features the classic coloring of older Glaoui rugs. We love the warmth of the central faded red medallion, as its framed by light blues, browns, yellows, and ivory colors.

Moroccan rugs are heirloom pieces that age well and are embedded with the living histories of the weavers, the symbols of their tribal regions, and the markings of both traditional and modern rug designs. Each tribal region in Morocco boasts its own weaving style- from modern black and white Beni Ourain rugs in the north, to the colorful and abstract Azilal high pile rugs, to the low pile rugs of the southern Ait Ouaouzguite region. While the process of weaving is the same throughout Morocco, the colors, textures, and patterns vary greatly from one region to the next. The artisans we work with are skilled at creating hand-knotted, thicker pile rugs, as well as weaving geometric Moroccan kilims, boucherouite rag rugs, and double-sided handira wedding blankets. The results of this are colorful, eclectic, and bohemian rugs that are perfect for any home — from throw rugs to hallway runners to area living room rugs.
