Overview:
This is a classic boucherouite rug. While some of the newer boucherouites are made from colorful cotton, this one is made entirely from upcycled cloth and textiles. Women all over Morocco weave these rugs as it's a way for them to use up their leftover materials. If they need more cloth, they might buy used clothing at the weekly souk (market). From there, they would deconstruct the clothing until they have a fiber they can weave with. This rug is a result of that process. Because this rug is woven with cloth, it's more durable than a wool rug. It's also easier to clean, which makes it a great rug if you have small children, pets, or need something for a high traffic area.

All rug measurements listed on our site refer to the woven area only. They do not include the fringe. If you need the full length including fringe for a tight space or exact fit, just reach out and we’ll be happy to provide that measurement.
Because each rug is handwoven, slight variations are part of the charm. Some rugs may not be perfectly rectangular and can be slightly wider or narrower at one end. If a rug varies more than 4" across its width or length, we’ll note it in the product description. Anything under 4" is considered a normal allowance for handcrafted pieces like these.
We’ve made every effort to accurately represent the colors within the rugs, but the colors displayed may vary slightly from the actual piece. The appearance of colors can be influenced by various factors, including monitor calibration, brightness, and other settings. Each screen displays colors differently, and everyone perceives colors uniquely. If precise color matching is critical, please reach out for further information!
The simplest, time-tested method is straight from Morocco: hang your rug in the sun for a few hours, then shake it out well before bringing it back inside. This regular airing out is the best way to keep your rug fresh and dust-free. Beyond that, care depends on the rug’s material and construction. For instance cotton boucherouites are the easiest to clean - just throw them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and air dry. Longer pile rugs should be vacuumed with care. Be sure to turn off the rotating brush or switch to the “carpet” setting before vacuuming the top side. For more information click here.
For stains or heavy dirt, we recommend professional cleaning, especially if the rug is wool or vintage. Most rug cleaning services charge around $5–6 per square foot.
Regular cleaning not only removes dust embedded in the fibers, but also helps extend the life of your rug. Think of it as a check-up– occasional care now can help preserve it for decades to come.
We recommend using a rug pad. It adds cushioning, prevents slipping, and reduces wear on both the rug and your floors. It's one of the simplest ways to protect your investment. For more about rug pads, see below.
