Overview:
Once upon a time we made a custom rug for a client that was meant to look like an abstracted map of Morocco. We loved it so much, we had to remake it as a much larger rug. This piece is made in the traditional Kharita style, which, in Arabic, means 'map.' These flatweave rugs are the same on both sides, which requires a very sophisticated weaving technique. The designs are tightly packed, abstract, and often feature more organic shapes that you won't find in other rugs. Like a map of Morocco, the colors on this rug are meant to symbolize the Atlantic ocean in the top left, the fertile plains, the Atlas mountains, and the Sahara desert, in the bottom right. This rug would fit perfectly in a living room, under a dining room table, or under a bed.

The appearance of colors can be influenced by various factors, including monitor calibration, brightness, and other settings. The simplest, time-tested method is straight from Morocco: hang your rug in the sun for a few hours, then shake it out well before bringing it back inside. This regular airing out is the best way to keep your rug fresh and dust-free. Beyond that, care depends on the rug’s material and construction. For instance cotton boucherouites are the easiest to clean - just throw them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and air dry. Longer pile rugs should be vacuumed with care. For stains or heavy dirt, we recommend professional cleaning, especially if the rug is wool or vintage. Most rug cleaning services charge around $5–6 per square foot.Regular cleaning not only removes dust embedded in the fibers, but also helps extend the life of your rug. Think of it as a check-up– occasional care now can help preserve it for decades to come.
