Overview:
This style of flatweave rug is indicative of the Zemmouri rugs from the Middle Atlas mountains. We worked with our artisan partners to come up with a color palette that complemented their traditional weaving styles. The result is this small rug that can easily be custom ordered to larger sizes. At this size, we recommend placing this rug next to a bed, in a kitchen, entryway, or in a bathroom. For the best feel underfoot, this rug should always be placed on top of a rug pad.

Kantara, meaning "bridge" in Arabic, is deeply committed to fair and ethical trade. Since 2008, we have worked directly with the same weaving cooperatives in rural Morocco. Thanks to our longstanding relationship with these highly skilled Moroccan artisans, we are able to curate and design authentic rugs and pillows that both preserve the ancient weaving traditions and add a modern touch.
Moroccan rugs are heirloom pieces that age well and are embedded with the living histories of the weavers, the symbols of their tribal regions, and the markings of both traditional and modern rug designs. Each tribal region in Morocco boasts its own weaving style- from modern black and white Beni Ourain rugs in the north, to the colorful and abstract Azilal high pile rugs, to the low pile rugs of the southern Ait Ouaouzguite region. While the process of weaving is the same throughout Morocco, the colors, textures, and patterns vary greatly from one region to the next. The artisans we work with are skilled at creating hand-knotted, thicker pile rugs, as well as weaving geometric Moroccan kilims, boucherouite rag rugs, and double-sided handira wedding blankets. The results of this are colorful, eclectic, and bohemian rugs that are perfect for any home — from throw rugs to hallway runners to area living room rugs.
