This rug is a custom-made flatweave version of an old abstract Moroccan checkered rug we once fell in love with. We worked with our artisan partners in the Middle Atlas to perfect the design. We wanted something reminiscent of the checkerboard rugs, yet still wanted to capture the handwoven aspect of the craft. With the vintage checkered rugs, you often find gaps between the shapes and wide variations of checker sizes--from elongated, thick rectangles, to tight, small square checkers; we wanted to capture those organic twists and turns with this piece.
